ADWA Supports First Annual Cross Trail Outfitters Rendezvous 2009

01-21-09

AUSTIN, Texas – The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance is proud to announce their support for Cross Trail Outfitters (CTO) First Annual Outfitters Rendezvous to be held February 19, 2009 through February 22, 2009 in Port Lavaca, Texas. Featuring seminars to competition of all kinds, the CTO event guarantees a lot of action.

“Our staff and volunteers aim to be the very best in the world at taking kids hunting and fishing, and our Outdoors Rendezvous will be a showcase of the best of the best,” said CTO founder and Chief Outfitter Mike Arnold.

CTO is comprised of locally-based, year-round clubs, each anchored by a full-time Outfitter. For the Outfitters Rendezvous, each local CTO unit will field a team made up of the Outfitter, two volunteer Rangers and two youth Apprentice Guides. Within each unit, volunteers and youth compete to earn a coveted spot on the team.

Arnold said the competition will include archery, clay shooting, marksmanship, fishing, and other activities. But, while the tools will be familiar, the events will be unlike any other.

“Over the years we’ve developed various methods for teaching kids the skills necessary to be successful in the field, and our competitive events are based on these unique exercises. There won’t be any straight-up ‘stand on the line and shoot a target’ kind of events. Instead, they will feature dynamic and intense situations, where disciplined instincts and a level head will win the day – just like in the real world,” he said.

At the event, two major awards will be given: The Golden Brand and the Chief’s Cup award. Each CTO Outfitter is given a branding iron when they are commissioned to start their local unit, and the Golden Brand award will go to the unit that has the best record in the field for the year in terms of success rate and safety. The Chief’s Cup award will go to the winning team of the Outfitters Rendezvous competition. Also, ribbons for individual performance will be awarded.

ADWA Director of Operations Annie Jones adds: “The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance (ADWA) thanks Cross Trail Outfitters for offering a safe and engaging outlet for kids who love to hunt and fish. We support CTO and like-minded groups who create opportunities for kids to hunt, who may not otherwise have the chance to do so.”
