Cross Trail Outfitters Summer 2008
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Summer 2008 marked the first time that CTO has run two separate summer camps, led by two different teams, on two ranches a state apart, at the same time.
We had four full sessions at Spanish Dagger Ranch in Uvalde, TX, led by Outfitters Greg Flores, Earl Spurlock and Brian Utecht. Stillwater Refuge in Grapeland (near Crockett), TX, hosted three full sessions led by Outfitters Chad Richardson, Jeremy Overby and Larry Pierce. As always, the Outfitters wives and unit volunteers were instrumental in the successful running of these camps.
Each camp session was nine days long, and all kids had opportunities to harvest big game animals and catch fish, all in a fun and adventurous setting. They harvested rams, axis deer (does and bucks), oryx, hogs, and other species. All told, we hosted 74 campers from 12 different states. By God's grace we once again had 100% safety, and enormous success by every measure.
Those of you who keep up with CTO know we're not big on quoting statistics. It seems too many ministries and churches are too quick to quote numbers of "salvations" with no real definition of what they mean -- and often the same kids get "saved" over and over, every time there's an altar call, rendering the statistics meaningless. CTO is relationship based, not statistic based, and so we opt to show real-world testimonials from youth and parents to show our impact. That said, this summer the "numbers" were too big to not pass along. All told, 42 campers stepped up and said they want to follow Christ regardless of the cost, and we baptized a total of 28 in the ranch ponds.
CTO Mission Trip: Outfitters Jeremy Overby and Brian Utecht led a team of brave teenage boys to the remote jungles of the Moskito Coast region of Honduras for a powerful mission trip.
This is the third year a team from CTO has traveled to the village of Mocoron to work alongside missionary Norma Love in her service to the indigenous Moskito Indians. These loving people live in one of the most harsh, impoverished and desolate regions of our hemisphere, and their appreciation for our efforts is inspirational.
The first year, our team traveled in dugout canoes to a village that had never been visited by anyone from outside the region. Last year, we built a new home for a single mother raising seven children. This year, the team built a facility for the women's group organized by Norma, so they may be able to work to better their lives and community. At every step, our teams take every opportunity to share the love and word of God. It was a powerful experience for everyone involved.
