Free Celebration of NHF Day at Wonders of Wildlife

09-18-09

SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI-Free activities, exhibits, attractions and entertainment for the whole family will highlight a public celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day, September 26, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Wonders of Wildlife/Bass Pro Shops at 500 West Sunshine St. in Springfield, Missouri.

Springfield area Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and 4-H chapters are co-hosting the event.

"National Hunting and Fishing Day was formalized by Congress in 1972 as an annual celebration of hunters, anglers and conservation. Through licenses and special taxes on certain sporting goods, hunters and anglers generate $100,000 every 30 minutes for fish, wildlife and habitat programs. No one does more for conservation," said Misty Mitchell, director of conservation programs for Wonders of Wildlife, the official home of NHF Day.

Public celebrations of NHF Day are held each year around the country.

Attractions at the Springfield event will include:
