Free hunter safety courses available in Illinois
Springfield, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is offering free hunter safety education courses as the fall hunting season approaches.
Officials with the state agency say the courses include instruction on hunting regulations, hunter ethics, wildlife identification and first aid. A minimum of 10 hours of instruction is required.
A state law says anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1980, has to successfully complete a free hunter safety course before an Illinois hunting license can be issued.
The director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources says safety is the top priority, regardless of age or expertise.
