Game Wardens Foundation Announces Scholarship Grants
SACRAMENTO - The California Game Wardens Foundation (GWF) announces the awarding of 30 scholarships, worth a total of $35,000, to 26 children, 3 spouses and one Game Warden.
"We had a great group of applicants, all of whom are dedicated young men and women with strong records of community service, academic achievement and leadership. They represent a solid cross-section of our future leaders" said Judd Hanna, GWF Chairman. "The Board of Directors applauds all of them and bids them success in their future endeavors."
The 30 recipients are either going on to college, continuing with their college educations, taking special classes to upgrade their skills or attending challenging trade schools.
GWF scholarships are made possible by donations to the foundation's Principal Fund from sportsmen and women, landowners, conservationists and other California citizens who care about California's diminishing natural resources.
"The mission of the Foundation is to provide financial benefits and citizen support to California Game Wardens and their families," said Ned Spieker, a founding member of the organization. "We welcome new members as we strive to raise our second million dollars by the end of 2009."
The California Game Wardens Foundation was founded in 2007 by a small group of Californians who are concerned with the enforcement of our state's environmental and resource laws. Game Wardens are the first and often the only line of enforcement of the myriad laws that protect our diverse and vital resources.
