Hunters, Shooters and Anglers Fund Wildlife Conservation

12-12-08

Christmas shoppers looking to buy that special someone a firearm, ammunition or archery equipment can feel extra good about being a conservationist, too. Every time you buy a firearm, ammunition and archery equipment, you're helping restore and conserve wildlife and their habitats. A program called the Wildlife Restoration Program (WR), which is based on user pay, user benefit, provides grant funding to the states and the District of Columbia for wildlife management projects as well as efforts to provide public access to wildlife, hunter education and to develop and manage shooting ranges. The Program is authorized by the Wildlife Restoration Act (Pittman-Robertson PR) of 1937 and is the nation's oldest and most successful wildlife restoration program.

Anglers are also in on the action because the excise taxes they pay on fishing equipment and motorboat and small engine fuels are apportioned to states and territories for fishery projects, boating access and aquatic education.

So feel good about shopping this Christmas and all year round, too!
