Master Archery Byron Ferguson Returns to 2009 West Virginia State Outdoor Expo
Roanoke, W.Va. - The man with the "magic bow," Byron Ferguson, will return for the 2009 edition of West Virginia's Celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Days at Stonewall Resort State Park September 26-27. The annual celebration of everything dealing with the outdoors is sponsored by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR) and the West Virginia Wildlife Federation.
"Byron first amazed the crowd at the 2007 Hunting and Fishing Days event, and the 2009 show will truly showcase his skill," said event organizer Jerry Westfall of the Wildlife Resources Section of DNR. "Byron took an interest in the longbow at the age of 12, first shooting out candles in the pitch dark night to develop his skill. Byron is able to do the impossible when it involves the bow and arrow. He is able to shoot coins out of the air, split playing cards, and even shoot an arrow through a wedding ring in mid-air."
Asked why he prefers the longbow, the master archer indicates the reason is the "romance that is tied to the weapon. Longbows are traceable to the cavemen and have been praised in songs, poems and stories since the dawn of mankind."
Ferguson is always a show favorite, attracting not only avid bow hunters and archers, but the entire family. He has taken his talents around the world, performing in eight foreign countries and on dozens of television programs.
In addition, Ferguson now lends his skill and talents to his son, Zach, in the development and marketing of his own line of signature longbows. Additional information is available from Byron's Web site at www.byronferguson.com.
Anyone interested in outdoors activities of all kinds are invited to attend the West Virginia's Celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Days at Stonewall Resort State Park on September 26 and 27 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday. A complete show listing and schedule are available on the DNR Web site at www.wvdnr.gov/hunting/nathuntfish.shtm.
