Mathews Shooters Sweep IBO World Championships
SPARTA, Wis. - The IBO World Championship was held August 21 - 23 in Ellicottville, New York. Coming off a sweep of the pro classes at the ASA Classic, Mathews was looking for a repeat at this event. That is exactly what they got. Levi Morgan, Charlie Owens, Amy Wenmoth and Derry null won the championship in the four pro classes.
Levi Morgan has had a remarkable two year stretch. He won the ASA Shooter of the Year award for the second straight year and he was looking for more. This week, Morgan had a final score of 526-28 and won the IBO World Championship by seven points. Second place went to Jeff Hopkins with a score of 519-27. Mathews had five of the top ten finishers in the class. The rest of the top ten included: Bob Eyler, 509-22, 4th place; Tim Gillingham, 507-19, 5th place and Bill McCall, 405-15 in 7th place.
Charlie Owens won the title in the Limited Pro class. Owens had a score of 469-11 to capture the top spot. Larry Goza finished in second place with a score of 465-9 and Rodney Huffman was third with a score of 463-8. Mathews finished with all ten of the top spots in the class. The rest of the top ten included: Tom Blanton Jr., 458-7, 4th place; Ryan Leonard, 455-5, 5th place; Joseph Goza, 361-7, 6th place; Gene Curry and Chris Stachler were tied for 7th with a score of 361-3 and Bryan Marcum and Michael Nicholson tied for 9th with a score of 355-7.
In the Women's Pro class, Amy Wenmoth picked a good time to get her first win of the season. Wenmoth had a score of 478-11 to win the championship. Third place went to Susan Davis with a score of 473-13. Mathews had nine of the top ten places in the class. The rest of the top ten included: Jeanna Allbritain, 463-12, 4th place; Cara Fernandez, 457-5, 5th place; Andrea Nicholson, 364-9, 6th place; Tina Huntzinger, 363-10, 7th place; Aime Whittington, 359-8, 8th place; Ginger Morehead, 355-5, 9th place and Connie Calloway, 354-9 in 10th place.
In the Senior Pro class, Derry Null won the championship with a score of 492-17. This was Null's second win of the season. Null got his first win of the season at the ASA Classic. Second place went to Tom Crowe with a score of 485-15 and third place went to Charles Blankenship with a score of 481-18. Mathews finished with eight of the top ten in the class. The rest of the top ten included: Burley Hall, 478-9, 5th place; Jackie Caudle, 476-13, 6th place; Dan Renner, 379-13, 7th place; Bill Sennick, 378-11, 8th place and David Dirschell, 372-10 in 10th place.
