PETA Founder Fires Off at Sarah Palin
As former Alaska Governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin travels the nation promoting her new autobiography, Going Rogue, PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk took several shots in an “open letter‘ posted on her November 17th blog.
Newkirk expressed her disdain with Palin`s quote in the book that read, “If any vegans came over for dinner, I could whip them up a salad, then explain my philosophy on being a carnivore.” Newkirk criticized Palin, stating: “She [Palin] seems to believe that we only eat salad, but if she’s keeping an eye on the New York Times bestseller list, she will spot two vegan cookbooks in the top five with barely a salad recipe in either of them.”
Going Rogue is selling out at bookstores across the country and creating a stir in the political arena. According to HarperCollins, the book sold more than 700,000 copies in its first week of release, making it the top-selling book of the week, ahead of new releases from authors like James Patterson and Stephen King.
In other anti-hunting news, Bob Barker (the former host of The Price is Right) recently donated $1 million to Drury University in Springfield, Mo., to aid in his personal mission to stop hunting.
The funds are being used to establish a so-called “animal ethics class” which will teach the anti-hunting message to thousands of students. Barker also donated another $1 million earlier this year to the University of Virginia for an “animal ethics class” there as well.
