Senate Ag Committee to Consider CFTC, USDA and Farm Credit Nominations This Week
WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today announced that the Committee will hold a hearing to review pending nominations to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Farm Credit Administration. The nominees include Bartholomew Chilton, Jill Sommers, Scott O'Malia, Edward M. Avalos, Harris D. Sherman and Kenneth Albert Spearman. The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, at 10:00 a.m. in room 328A of the Russell Senate Office Building.
The Committee will examine the following nominations:
CFTC
• Bartholomew Chilton, of Maryland, to be a Commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission
• Jill Sommers, of Kansas, to be a Commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission
• Scott O'Malia, of Michigan, to be a Commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission
USDA
• Edward M. Avalos, of New Mexico, to be Under Secretary of Agriculture for Marketing and Regulatory Programs at USDA and to be a Member of the Board of Directors of the Commodity Credit Corporation
• Harris D. Sherman, of California, to be Under Secretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and Environment at USDA and to be a Member of the Board of Directors of the Commodity Credit Corporation
Farm Credit Administration
• Kenneth Albert Spearman, of Florida, to be a Member of the Farm Credit Administration Board, Farm Credit Administration
