The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance (ADWA) works to grow the deer and wildlife industries through leadership, education and public awareness. We serve as a national voice for companies, organizations and industry professionals who promote industry growth and support the advancement of wildlife and habitat.
ADWA Goes to Washington
Surveys indicate nearly 80 percent of Americans support hunting and nearly 19 million hunters contribute more than $30 billion annually to the U.S. economy. The deer (aka cervid) industry adds another $3 billion to the economy and the two combine to create more than one million jobs, many of which are located in rural America.
Working to represent these industries and build a better habitat for business, the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance participated in a “Legislative Fly-In’ organized by the North American Deer Farmers Association (NADeFA), an association that gives a political voice to approximately 15,000 deer breeders. The lobbying event attracted representatives from across the country and met with the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, Safari Club International, National Rifle Association, United States Department of Agriculture and the offices of more than 70 Congressional and Senate members.

ADWA Announces Plans for New Youth Safari Camp
The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance is extremely proud to announce plans for an all-new Youth Safari Camp that will provide kids with a singularly memorable outdoor experience hunting exotic game.
Working in conjunction with the Exotic Wildlife Association, the ADWA Youth Safari Camp will provide youth hunters — accompanied by a parent or guardian — with an evening and morning hunt for exotic species such as blackbuck antelope, scimitar-horned oryx, Corsican rams and others at a fraction of the cost of normal exotic hunts.
“Increased affordability and accessibility are two of the major obstacles which prevent youth from discovering the joys of nature and the thrill of hunting,” says John Meng, president of ADWA. “Hunting exotics has become too expensive for many families, but the ADWA Safari Camp will provide young sportsmen with an affordable, outdoor adventure they will remember for a long time.”

Wisconsin Keeps Deer Herds in Check
By Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation
Now that the state’s deer herd is in check, the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation (WFBF) wants to keep it that way.
“The Wisconsin Farm Bureau applauds the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for getting the deer herd under control across the state, but certainly there are local areas where further reductions are needed,” said Jeff Lyon, WFBF’s director of governmental relations.
Lyon provided comments to the members of the Assembly Fish and Wildlife Committee and the Senate Natural Resources Committee at an April 15 hearing devoted to the 2008 deer season and future herd management techniques.

TDA Delivers ‘Sure Shot’ Insurance for Hunting Leases
Hunting leases are growing in popularity nationwide and Texas land owners are looking for affordable options to protect their investments and provide financial security for their families. The Texas Deer Association (TDA) is proud to make available affordable hunting liability insurance which will reduce the expenses and operating costs for hunters and landowners throughout the state.
Landowners who lease their property to hunters cannot usually turn to normal home or automobile insurance companies for liability protection, so TDA has worked closely with Porter Insurance of Brownwood, Texas, to develop its ‘Sure Shot’ program, a special insurance package that covers commercial hunting facilities and hunting leases and is available to all TDA members.
David St. Pierre of the Paraiso Escondido Ranch near Cisco, Texas, recently applied for the Sure Shot insurance available through TDA and he was extremely impressed. “This was extremely easy,” said St. Pierre. “Warren [Blesh] just came out to the ranch and measured the buildings. Then, he gave me an awesome quote. I’m in the insurance business and I could not have beat it myself.”

A Win on the Second Amendment
One of the country's most liberal United States Circuit Courts has ruled that the Second Amendment of the Constitution is incorporated into the Constitution through the Fourteenth Amendment.
Without too-much legal jargon, the decision essentially means that last year's Heller Decision by the Supreme Court is being accepted and integrated into the interpretation of cases relating for individual firearms ownership questions.
The majority opinion was written by Judge Diarmuid F. O'Scannlain, with a concurring opinion from Judge Ronald M. Gould, who wrote, “The right to bear arms is a bulwark against external invasion...That we have a lawfully armed populace adds a measure of security for all of us and makes it less likely that a band of terrorists could make headway in an attack on any community before more professional forces arrived.”

Animal Rights Extremist Becomes FBI’s Most Wanted Domestic Terrorist
While animal rights extremist Daniel Andreas San Diego isn’t toppling Osama bin Laden from his perch as America’s number one most wanted terrorist, he is competing for space on that same list. He is suspected of engaging in at least two 2003 bomb attacks in northern California.
According to the U.S. Sportsman’s Alliance, the FBI announced it was adding San Diego to its “Most Wanted” terrorist list on April 21. The 31-year-old San Diego becomes only the 24th person to be added to the list and the first one that is solely wanted for domestic terrorism.
The attacks were directed against the offices of two biotech facilities that did business with a company conducting animal testing for medical purposes. According to the FBI, one of the bombs was “laced with nails to create potentially deadly shrapnel.”
San Diego is described as a strict vegan that “avoids consuming or wearing anything made with animal products.” A $250,000 reward for information leading to the capture of San Diego is being offered. That amount is substantially larger the rewards offered for other “eco-terrorists” wanted in the U.S. |
