ADWA Takes Aim on ‘Virtual Hunting’ Youth Clinics
The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance™ (ADWA) is pleased to announce Laser Shot, a global leader in firearms training, as its newest partner for helping to bring hunter education to young Americans. ADWA and Laser Shot are working together to provide a new, comprehensive ‘Virtual Hunter Education Series’ for children and young adults.
The new ADWA-Laser Shot Virtual Hunter Education course utilizes Laser Shot’s proven projection and laser detection technology to give students the experience of sporting firearms and to receive instruction in safety, proper ethics, and the responsibilities of gun ownership.

Locked & Loaded
More than 60,000 attendees and 400 exhibitors were locked and loaded for fun and a strong show of support for our Second Amendment rights at the 138th NRA Annual Meeting held in Phoenix. Opening day set new attendance records and the conference hall was booming with activity throughout the show. ADWA strongly supports the NRA as well as many of our members. Congress Passes Bill Allowing Guns in National Parks
Complex legislative games in Washington, DC led to the passage of a bill that clarifies that gun owners will not risk accidentally breaking federal law by simply having their firearms loaded when they are in national parks.
The Department of the Interior under former President Bush had announced in December 2008 new rules allowing holders of state issued concealed carry permits to take firearms into most of the nation’s national parks and wildlife refuges. The regulations included all states in which citizens are allowed to carry a concealed weapon.
However, in March, a federal judge blocked the policy and the new Obama administration accepted the court ruling indicating the Department of the Interior would reexamine it.

Texas Deer Association Takes Lead in Deer Disease Research
Serving as proud stewards of Texas deer, the Texas Deer Association (TDA) board of directors has approved a $50,000 research funding gift to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University. The approved funding is a big step forward for deer disease research and will assist the College of Veterinary Medicine develop specific research that will benefit the deer industry in Texas over the next year.
“The Texas Deer Association is extremely grateful for the support provided by the College of Veterinary Medicine and we hope this research gift will lead to key research for diseases, such as epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) and blue tongue, which kill tens of thousands of whitetail deer every year in the United States,” says Karl Kinsel, executive director of the Texas Deer Association. “The TDA remains dedicated to improving the quality of Texas deer herds and expanding veterinary medicine for deer and all cervids is a vital component to achieving that goal.”
