The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance (ADWA) works to grow the deer and wildlife industries through education and public awareness. We serve as a national voice for companies, organizations and industry professionals who promote industry growth and support the advancement of wildlife and habitat.
Our Future is Now
Our youth are the future of the industry. Without their involvement today, our industry could fade into obscurity within the next 20 to 30 years. Is that an outlandish statement? I don’t think so.
In 1975, 19.1 million Americans (16-years old or older) had hunted in their lifetime. In 2006, that number had plummeted to only 12.5 percent. That’s a steady decline of a quarter percent annually which, if continued, will result in another 5 percent loss in 20 years and a 7.5 percent loss in 30 years.
But I suggest that a more rapid decline is possible. The political clout and aggressive strategies of the animal rights activists, rampant urbanization, and the continued collapse of traditional families are immediate threats to our American outdoor traditions.

OSU Farmed Whitetail Deer Program Graduates First Class
Seven innovative Oklahoma agriculturalists graduated from the OSU Farmed Whitetail Deer Program's inaugural certification course. Being the first certified farmers in this rapidly growing industry, graduates learned the latest business and agricultural information about how to operate a deer farm and optimize profits in the deer industry.
"The OSU Whitetail Deer Program is a bold step taken by the university to bring professionalism and education to a relatively new agricultural industry within the state. This program will serve as a vital link between deer farmers struggling to understand this amazing animal, and the latest in scientific research and sound management principles," stated Greg Bersche, certified deer farmer and natural resource specialist, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

ADWA Extends Aid to Community Youth Groups
There’s nothing more important to the outdoor industry than sharing our reverence for wildlife and the outdoors with our children. Unfortunately, more of our kids are disconnected from nature than ever before, so the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance is proud to announce a pilot program designed to facilitate and support local outdoor-based youth groups.
If you work with an existing outdoor youth group or would like to start one and would like more information about the ADWA Youth Affiliate program, please contact ADWA at 877.331.3807.

Feds Reverse Policies on Firearm Transfers
In a recent ruling regarding the "transfer" of firearms, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATFE) has reversed policies that have been in place for more than 40 years.
In the ruling, BATFE declared that a temporary shipment of a firearm by a federal firearms licensee to a non-employee for business reasons (such as a manufacturer's shipment to a gun writer or engineering consultant for a technical evaluation), will now be considered a "transfer" and require completion of a Form 4473 and background check.
This reverses a ruling issued in 1969, right after the passage of the Gun Control Act, although BATFE provided no explanation of the need for the change. According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, BATFE has not been able to name a single case in which a gun temporarily shipped under the old rule has been used in crime.

Knife Rights Contests Tactics in Knife Retailer Shakedown
New York District Attorney Vance recently held a dramatic dog and pony show with a very impressive array of so-called gravity knives and switchblades, but political grandstanding doesn’t change the fact that the claims made by Vance had little basis in truth.
Knife Rights Chairman Doug Ritter said, "the outrageous claims made by Vance to rationalize his shakedown of honest knife retailers during his press conference were all misrepresentations or half-truths, if not outright lies. If the general media in attendance wasn't so unfortunately uninformed of the issues and the law, as well as the technical aspects of folding knives, he might have had a more difficult time getting them to swallow the unmitigated fabrications he was dishing out."
