ADWA Renews Title Sponsorship of Deer & Wildlife Stories
The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance proudly announces it has renewed its title sponsorship of Keith Warren’s Deer & Wildlife Stories television program for 2010.
“Deer & Wildlife Stories debuted in 2009 and immediately received an outpouring of positive responses from deer enthusiasts and sportsmen across the country that care deeply for wildlife and conservation efforts,” says John Meng, president of ADWA. “The show continues to help educate viewers on issues affecting whitetail deer, habitat management, land fragmentation and other important topics, and we are extremely proud to bring these issues to the forefront.”
Deer & Wildlife Stories currently airs on the Outdoor Channel three times every week — Tuesdays at 9am EST, Fridays at 2am EST and Saturdays at 5:30pm EST. However, the highly acclaimed show will be airing on the Pursuit Channel in January 2010 and will Wednesdays at 7:30pm, Fridays at 6pm and Sunday at 12am.

Birth of New Game Ranchers
Recently, the Southeastern Game Ranchers Association sponsored the First Annual Louisiana Game Ranch Extravaganza, an event that was also supported by the Louisiana FFA, Steve and Carolyn Laughlin of the North American Deer Farmers Association (NADeFA), SGRA members Jerome and Nadia Fiti and the Juneau family of Moreauville, La., who offered their hospitality along with their private Safari Park to host the venue.
The event brought together members of the SGRA and Louisiana Alternative Livestock Farmers and, more importantly, introduced Louisiana FFA students to the world of game ranching and deer farming.
The event featured mini-seminars for enclosure-based wildlife management, antler scoring and artificial insemination of whitetail deer. In addition, there was a fabulous tour of the ranch, and an informative demonstration of how to work whitetail deer in a handling system.

Policy Review Appears to Shortchange Sport and Recreational Fishing
By U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance
The Obama Administration recently released a management plan for the oceans and Great Lakes that could have a huge negative impact on fishing in coastal areas.
The plan is called the Interim Report of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force. The policies outlined in the report will govern federal ocean and Great Lakes waters. The report focuses on shifting to “ecosystem-based management as a foundational principle for the comprehensive management of the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes.”

Texas Proposes New CWD Regulations for Elk
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), a fatal, degenerative brain wasting of elk, white-tailed and mule deer, has not been detected in Texas, but maintaining surveillance for the condition is essential for animal disease response and trade purposes. The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC), the state’s livestock and poultry health regulatory agency, has proposed new regulations to ensure adequate CWD surveillance of captive and free-ranging elk moved within the state. The TAHC will accept comments on the proposed elk rules through November 9, and the TAHC commissioners will consider the rules for adoption at their December 8 meeting in Austin.
“White-tailed deer and other deer species have been under existing CWD surveillance programs through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the TAHC,” said Dr. Bob Hillman, Texas’ state veterinarian and TAHC executive director. “The TAHC also offers voluntary CWD herd status programs for captive deer and elk to qualify the animals to be moved to other states. Furthermore, the TAHC has had importation rules in place for several years.”
